Wildcats still in it

The Wildcats are in a best of three semi-final against the Sydney Kings. Tonights game was excellent, very close through most of the game. In the end the Wildcats won 94-85, which brings the score to one all, the deciding game is an away game this weekend.

Parking

I had to get up early this morning to get to work so that I could find somewhere to park. Today is the first day of semester and for some reason all of the students think they have to be here at 9am. Given that the parking office sells three times as many student parking permits as parking spaces this leads to chaos in the car parks.
Add to this the fact that some of the new first years don’t even realise they need a parking permit and that there is a distinction between yellow staff parking bays and green student bays (and a few other colours). Also don’t forget that these new students have probably had their driving licenses for a day or two which leads to crashes in the car parks and on the streets in and around campus. I got here at 8am this morning and there was already a smash in a 1/3 full car park, it will only get worse during the day.
Finally, the University has decided to resurface one of the large temporary parking areas to make it a permanent parking area. However, this seemed to start in the last week of the long summer holiday and obviously isn’t complete yet. This is made worse by the fact that since the beginning of last semester some of the temporary parking areas have become new buildings.
And it’s just occurred to me that I have to get off campus this evening, that will take some time as there will be queues to get on to the main roads around campus. At least I don’t have to go very far since I moved.

Perth Unicycling

Every Sunday afternoon a bunch of us get together and unicycle around Perth. We organise our get togethers through the PerthUnicycling.com website setup by Mike. Today was just Mike, Daniel and me as Steve and Kurt are in the USA. I took the new camera, I was never comfortable carrying the DSLR while riding, and took some photos and video.

Wildcats 96 Crocodiles 78

The Perth Wildcats won their first play off game this evening which means they go into a best of three semi-final against regular season winners the Sydney Kings.
The game gave me an opportunity to try out the new camera , Wildcats are playing in red.

New Camera

So after quite a few months of thinking about it I’ve finally gone out and bought myself a new compact digital camera to go with my DSLR. I went out last night looking and discovered that Hardly Normal were having a stock take sale and the camera I was interested in a Canon Ixus 75 had almost 20% off.
I went back at lunchtime today and purchased it and even managed to get out of the shop with out purchasing a memory card, camera bag, tripod or extended warranty.
I then went to PLE and got an 8Gb SD memory card which should be able to store about 4,500 images (or 2 hours of video). This will come in handy at Burning Man as I’m not sure I’ll be able to download images to a laptop for the week that we are there.
I have, on several, occasions found myself wishing I had a camera with me. The DSLR can be too bulky/heavy/conspicuous for a lot of things, this new camera can sit in my pocket. The compact obviously can’t zoom as well as my DSLR but at least I’ll be more likely to have a camera with me now. Plus the new camera can take video

Time for a change!

So I thought it was probably about time this web site got a make over. Maybe the home page will get updated more often if it is a blog.
Even if it only gets new content once a year it’ll be an improvement on the old site .
